Google Ads Dropshipping - My Story

Google Ads Dropshipping: What My Own Stores Taught Me

Google Ads works for dropshipping when you run it like a numbers game. Test products on a plan. Fix the offer before the ads. Split your products into winners and wasters. Scale in 10 to 20% steps and judge on 3 to 4 days of data. I learned this on my own stores, starting in 2018.

Where I Come From

I Was a Dropshipper Before I Was an Agency Owner

I got into ecom in 2018. I was 19. No marketing degree. No agency job. Just my own store, my own money on ads, and a lot of mistakes I paid for myself.

Most agency people learned Google Ads on client budgets. I learned it the other way around. If a campaign burned money, it was my own money.

Thirty percent margins feel very different when they are yours. Every euro of ad spend has to earn its place. That is where my margin instinct comes from.

I ran my own stores for six years before I founded ZenoX Media in 2024. I still co-own several ecom brands today. I still deal with the same feed errors and the same Merchant Center flags as every store owner reading this.

“Most agency people have never spent their own money on ads. I have. That changes every decision I make in your account.”

Two Stories

Two Stories That Shaped How I Scale

I Almost Broke a Store by Scaling Too Fast

Back in my early days as a media buyer, I ran a store for someone else that was going really well. It was not even my money, but I got attached to it, and I forgot my own rules.

I made big jumps in budget instead of steady steps. Then it crashed. Profit margin went down. Cash flow got tight. I scaled back hard, and the account swung up and down for a while after that.

“It was going too well and I forgot to stick to my own rules.”
Me, on camera. Watch it at 31:43

The rule now: Now I raise budgets 10 to 20% at a time. I wait at least 3 to 4 days, a week is better. Then I check the new baseline and go again.

The Client Who Wanted to Scale Back at Noon

A client of mine was crushing it in October, right before Black Friday. All the cash went back into ads. That is scary when it is one of your first stores.

At 12:00 he messaged me. Sessions were down 30% on the day before. Sales were down 24%. He wanted to scale back.

We had three strong days in a row. It was midday in Central Europe and we were selling in the UK, so people were still at work. We held. That evening the store hit a new record day.

“Okay, we need to be cool.”
Me, on camera. Watch it at 33:42

The rule now: At that level the job is discipline. Stay cool. Follow the rules. Never decide on half a day of data.

If I Started Again

What I Would Do If I Started Again Today

Six rules. Each one links to the moment in my videos where I explain it.

  1. 01

Treat It Like a Numbers Game

Test products and markets on a plan. Decide what a good cost per click, order value and conversion rate look like before you spend.

    Six steps video, 1:04
  2. 02

Fix the Offer Before the Ads

Google is a price comparison platform. Shoppers see your price next to everyone else's. No media buying fixes a weak offer.

    Six steps video, 3:17
  3. 03

    Keep the Feed Lean

Do not throw 3,000 products into one campaign at 50 a day. Upload a small batch, like five products a day or 30 a week, well optimized. Then test that.

    Four mistakes video, 6:03
  4. 04

    Split Winners from Wasters

Usually less than 20% of your products bring in a big part of the revenue. Push those. Cut the wasters. Once you have data, split it into five campaigns. A feed-only PMax runs as the catch-all, with the wasters left out. A waster is any product that wastes money. It gets its own small Shopping campaign. Winners and potentials get a campaign. Potentials have sales and good numbers, but not much volume yet. Zombies and sleepers are products that get little budget, so they get a campaign to test them. Last, a small brand Search campaign.

    Fix Tracking Before Hacks

Broken tracking is one of the four mistakes I see on nearly every store that comes to us. Most beginners only track purchases. No add to cart, no begin checkout, no enhanced conversions, no consent mode. Get the basics right before you chase secret tips.

Scale in Steps and Stay Cool

Raise budgets 10 to 20% at a time. Judge on 3 to 4 days of data, not on one slow afternoon.

Merchant Center

Does Google Allow Dropshipping?

Yes. I ran my own dropshipping stores on Google Ads. The dropshipping stores we run today do too. What trips stores up is Merchant Center.

Merchant Center checks your store against Google's rules before your ads run. Read the misrepresentation policy first. It bans hiding where orders ship from, hiding shipping costs and fake business details.

So your shipping times, shipping costs and return policy must say the same thing in Merchant Center and on your store.

“The information has to be correct and congruent everywhere because otherwise you will face GMC issues.”

When to Get Help

When to Hand It to an Agency

Learning it yourself is the right call at the start. You learn your numbers. You learn your offer.

Once spend gets big, the hard part is your nerves. You spend 10,000 a day, two days look bad, and you want to pull the plug. That is where most people mess it up.

“you can kind of outsource that decision-making and you don't have these emotional fluctuations. That's worth a lot at that level.”

Questions

Google Ads Dropshipping Questions I Get

Yes, when you run it on rules. I learned it on my own stores, starting in 2018. Today ZenoX Media runs Google Ads for 400+ ecom stores. It works best when the offer is strong, the feed is clean and the tracking is right.
